A wonderful start to the new academic year in Rhino class.

The children of Rhino class have settled very well into their new routines and daily life in school!

The last few weeks have been full of hard work, teamwork, perseverance and a lot of fun along the way. The week is busy and all the children have been helping each other to do their best.

In English, the story of ‘The Baker by the Sea’ has been a hit and the children have enjoyed exploring the features of the text. They planned out their very own tourist leaflet for a village by the sea, working hard to use a range of descriptive devices and sentence types. Their final leaflets were produced after editing their own work.

In Maths, the children have recently moved on to exploring Addition and Subtraction. All of their place value skills and knowledge will come in very handy over the next few weeks. They will be expanding their skills in column addition with and without exchanging, using inverse operations, estimating, multi-step calculations and problem solving.

We have progressed onto learning about the Bronze Age and more recently we have been discovering what life was like during the Iron Age! We are about to explore the history behind Stonehenge and will be using bourbon biscuits to support our learning.

In Science, we have explored various materials and carried out experiments to compare and group various materials based on their properties of thermal insulation. Our recent experiment was to test which material would be best to insulate a warm drink.

Our Art unit of work has really brought out the best in the Artists in Rhino class. The children have produced careful sketches of wild birds, feathers and most recently they have carried out block printing. More to follow!

Well done for having a great first few weeks, Rhinos! Keep up the great work!

Hello Yellow – World Mental Health Day

Dear parents and carers,
Our school will be taking part in Hello Yellow on Friday 10th October (World
Mental Health Day) to raise awareness and funds for YoungMinds, the UK’s
leading charity for young people’s mental health.
No young person should feel alone with their mental health and that’s why
Hello Yellow matters. We’re taking this opportunity as a school community to
come together and show our students that we’re with them and they’re never
alone with their mental health.

We’ll be taking part by wearing YELLOW on Friday 10th October.

You can also donate to support our school’s fundraising YoungMinds – Myddle CE Primary School

Most importantly, we want to share the resources which YoungMinds offer to
support parents and carers if you ever need help and advice to support your
children. This includes:
• online resources (www.youngminds.org.uk/parent/)
• a phone line, open 9.30am-4pm (0808 802 5544)
• an online chat for parents and carers to speak to trained
professionals if you’re concerned about your children’s mental
health (www.youngminds.org.uk/parents-helpline/)

Times Tables Rock Stars

All Rhino children now have their Rockstar character set up for playing Times Tables Rockstars! We have explored the website/app this morning and they have all completed a game to set which times tables they need to work on.
Your child has their log in details on a sticker, in their reading record book.
Here is a parent guide to give you more information and advice if you need it.
