Creating beautiful leaf flowers

We spent time in our Forest area, searching for and collecting beautiful leaves of all different shapes and sizes. We followed instructions carefully to create lovely flower models, using just leaves and a twig! The children had to work really well with a partner to arrange the leaves and attach them to the twigs. We then created our own bouquets!

Living in the Stone Age for a day!

Collaboration day for Rhino Class!

Rhino class spent the day with Year 3 from Baschurch Primary School on Monday at The Stone Age Company, near Shifnal. We all enjoyed stepping back in time to experience what life was like during the Stone Age through a range of exciting, hands-on activities and experiences. It was a brilliant day for all!

A wonderful letter from the Shropshire Wildlife Trust

Well done to Miri, who has received a wonderful letter from the Shropshire Wildlife Trust. Miri wrote to the trust over the summer to let them know how keen she is about making sure we all care for the environment. The Shropshire Wildlife Trust are impressed by Miri’s dedication and have rewarded her efforts by inviting the class on a trip to the Nature Reserve and Recycling Centre! Please see the letter for more details. We will arrange this for the future. Well done to Miri!

Summer 2026

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all enjoying the final weekend of the Easter break.

Please open the attached file for an update, ready for the next half-term.

Please note:
-There is NO swimming on Monday 13th April.
-Children will need to wear their PE kits on Tuesday and Wednesday for the first week back.
– Swimming starts Monday 20th April – every Monday morning.
– They will continue to have their PE lesson on a Tuesday with Mr Savage.

Rhinos enjoying using the Hape Zome technique

Rhinos had a productive time using our outdoor areas to explore natural dye. We discovered work by India Flint – an artist who works with environmentally friendly and natural resources. She uses the ‘Hapa Zome’ method (meaning ‘leaf dye’ in Japanese) to print onto fabrics and paper. We used this method to explore dyes from the natural environment.
The following week, we progressed onto using colourful petals and flowers.

We are ready for the new term ahead!

Rhino class have all settled back into school life. They have loved being with their friends and have worked hard to get back into the routines of daily life in Rhino class. The first week saw a bit of snowy disruption! The second full week back has been a positive and busy one.

Here’s a snapshot:

We have started exploring our new text in English lessons. ‘Firebird’ by Saviour Pirotta has engaged us all and has us wondering what will happen to the Firebird, the Princes, the King and the Kingdom. We have worked hard to identify verbs and tenses within the text so far. We have studied different extracts, found a variety of verbs and have found synonyms and antonyms to build up a large bank of vocabulary. We have spent time working on our grammatical knowledge. Studying the simple past tense, progressive past tense and the perfect past tense has been a challenge. We have also been writing multi-clause sentences and finding out how using the subjunctive mood can affect our writing.

We have been enjoying our journey into multiplication and division. Year 5 children are getting to grips with using a range of written methods and Year 4 children have been investigating multiplying and dividing by 1 and 0. We are pushing ourselves to complete challenges to make sure we are using our problem solving and reasoning skills too.

We have just started our new topic ‘Ancient Greece’ which we are all excited about! We spent time putting together and understanding a timeline of events within the Ancient Greek period. I think we are all looking forward to finding out about Greek Gods and Goddesses and monsters!

Mrs White has spent time teaching us how to write on a stave to compose our own music. Listening to our mini performances in class has been fun.

Mrs Beauchamp is looking forward to starting our new Science topic very soon. Our journey into Earth and Space will be very interesting!

As part of our computing curriculum, we have been using Scratch to discover block-based visual programming language. We had the task of creating a maze and moving a Sprite from the start to the end.

Many children have been involved in Young Voices and a Dodgeball event this week. Well done to those who took part – it has certainly been a busy week or two!

Starting to feel festive…

Rhinos are gearing up for a really festive and packed few weeks! Children are working hard to learn their lines for our Christmas performance and are enjoying learning many new songs.

The story of the Iron Man is progressing well. The children have been learning about the pattern of the story, language techniques, sentence types and vocabulary used and they are about to discover something astronomers have been keeping an eye on. Today, we gained an insight into the world of illustration by watching a video introducing Chris Mould. We all enjoyed following step by step instructions to create out own Iron Man character.

Our festive bags are being sewn together slowly, but surely! The children are developing their sewing skills beautifully. We will soon be working on the festive design to attach to the front of our bags.

In Maths, we are working through a multiplication and division unit. We are developing skills in being able to recall times tables, applying that knowledge to problems and using tools to help us when were are not quite sure about certain times tables. All children in class have been told how important it is to learn their times tables as this can affect how they progress through their class work. We have expanded our knowledge by getting to know factors, prime numbers, square numbers and cube numbers.

In Geography, we have been researching renewable and non-renewable energy around the world. Children were tasked to sort out different energy sources and create a poster to promote the use of as much renewable energy as possible.

We all had a wonderful time at the panto on Tuesday. The children were so well-behaved and certainly displayed their singing and dancing skills throughout the performance! A lovely start to December.
