Again, if you’re feeling like being energetic, then click on the link below for a daily workout from the body coach Joe Wicks. Each day, he will continue to stream a live 30 minute PE lesson for pupils access at home at 9 am. There are also a wealth of 5/10 min workouts specifically aimed at children which are great.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Wider opening of school from 8th June

Dear parents and carers,
The governors of the school have agreed that the school will be ready for wider opening from Monday 8th June. We are still waiting for the risk assessment to be signed off by the local authority but don’t anticipate that this will cause any further delay.
Monday 1st June – school open daily to keyworker children who have pre-booked                                        from 8:30am
Monday 8th June – school open to nursery and reception children 9:15-12:00                                               Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
Monday  15th June – school open to year 1 children 9:00-12:15 Monday, Tuesday,                                        Thursday, Friday
Urgent Action: please dojo your class teacher if your child will be returning on the 8th (nursery and reception) or 15th (year 1)
We are now in a position where we need to collect more definite numbers as to which children will be returning to school when we partially reopen.  Please send your child’s class teacher a message on dojo indicating whether you will or will not be sending your child back to school on these dates. It would be helpful to know as soon as possible but certainly by Sunday 31st May as we will be training staff in school on Monday 1st . As stated in the letter you can change your mind at a later date. Once we have your response, we will be able to start preparing groups and bubbles for your children to be placed in.

Rhino Daily Challenge – Maths

Today there are two challenge to solve involving concepts of time. Try and complete at least one, or why try and solve both. Make sure you read what to do carefully.

Challenge 1:

How Many Times?

On a digital 24 hour clock, at certain times, all the digits are consecutive (in counting order). You can count forwards or backwards.

For example: 1:23 

How many times like this are there between midnight and 7:00?
How many are there between 7:00 and midday?
How many are there between midday and midnight?

Top Tip: Remember to try and work systematically in order to be sure you have found all possible answers…
Challenge 2:

Two Clocks

Sam and Julie are friends. Both of them have rather odd clocks at home.
In Sam’s bedroom there is an old alarm clock which his Dad had thrown out because it had lost its minute hand. Although it has only its small hand, Sam can still tell the time using it. He can tell the hour, such as midday. He can tell when it is time to get up, time to go to school and time to turn his light out at night.

At what time does Sam get up?
At what time does Sam go to school?
At what time is Sam supposed to turn out his light?

In Julie’s hall there is a very old clock which lost its hour hand a long time ago.

School finishes at half past three and it takes Julie at least half an hour to get home. Sometimes she goes to the shop on the way, and sometimes she leaves school a bit later. When she first gets home Julie always looks at the clock in the hall to see what time it is.
One week these were the times she saw:

On which day was it raining so she hurried straight home?
On which day did she go to the shop to buy some sweets on the way home?
On which day did she stay at school to practise in the band?
On which day did she play with Sam for about half an hour before setting off for home?
On which day did her teacher keep the class in for five minutes?

Ten Things Found in a Wizard’s Pocket

A dark night.
Some words that nobody could ever spell.
A glass of water full to the top.

A vest made from spider’s webs.

A bill from the wand shop.
A bucket full of stars and planets, to mix with the

Challenge:

What 10 things would you find in the pocket of who?

What would be in the pockets of a teacher? a footballer? a pop star? a scientist? a film/book character?

Choose someone and decide what 10 things would be found in their pocket. Try and use the structure of the original poem to help. The poet uses some short lines but also uses some longer more detailed lines. He also links some of the lines together where he links the dark night with the bucket full of stars. Can you make links in your poem?

I really look forward to reading what you come up with and it would be great to share some of your work on the school website. Send your work in via dojo and will put a presentation together showcasing your work.

Hi Pandas, I hope you are all well. I really enjoyed playing the ‘Guess the object’ game on our Zoom session on Friday and you were all amazing, asking brilliant questions. Well done!

Thank you for all of the communications over Class Dojo I really enjoy seeing what you have been up to. Last week saw some… very fast running, putting animals and their facts in to alphabetical order in excel, great maths work, lots of reading, gardening, bike riding, baking, a very sparkly blue spider in the spider game, some super writing and a poorly finger!

Following on from last week’s maths- her is a challenge! Still using the First, Then, Now strategy, try changing part of the number story to make it an unknown. This is a good activity to show how much understanding your child has of how the numbers change.
So, first there were 2 frogs on the log.
Then, some more frogs get on
Now there are 4 frogs.
How many frogs joined the group?
Alternatively, you could have an unknown amount at the start.

This week in maths we are looking at doubling. This can be doubling numbers, amounts in a group or doubling of patterns. Resources for doubling can be found below.

Games and activities to support doubling:
Play a doubles game with 2 dice. Roll both dice and see if you get a double – if you do, you score 2 points. The winner is the first person to 10 points.
Make towers or rows with Lego. Can they build towers that are double the length or double the height?
Can they find items around the house or garden to make double patterns?
Play matching snap.

English – finding out about dinosaurs
Can you create a fact file about dinosaurs? Which is your favourite dinosaur? What is it called? What food did they eat? (start to include terminology such as carnivore, herbivore, omnivore) Where did they live? Did it fly? How big was it? Include any interesting facts that you can find!
An interesting fact about a T-Rex is that its tooth is the same size as a banana!! AMAZING!

Below is an example for the ‘Dinosaur fact file’:
‘A diplodocus is my favourite dinosaur – it eats plants, so it is an herbivore. It has a very long neck to reach high up into the trees and has a very long tail. It weighed 12 tonnes which is as much as a large truck.’

Use pictures from the internet and drawings copied from books. Label the parts. Add extra interesting facts. Use text boxes and speech bubbles.

Proposed re-opening of the school – Draft plan

Dear parents and carers,

I know you must all be wondering what the next step will be for our schools to help you plan your own routines at home. There has been a huge amount of speculation, followed by so many documents from the DFE and LA. There are many more updates and documents on their way next week. We do not want to make plans only to have to undo them, so what I propose is a draft plan which we will adapt once we have all the advice and guidance. We need to audit all the staff and survey the parents properly to ascertain attendance numbers in the first instance.
We plan to take the return to school as safely as possible.  Our local authority have asked us to create teaching groups of 8-10 pupils, integrating them slowly, beginning with the youngest. These groups would not be able to mix with any other during their time in school.
We plan to begin with Nursery and Reception children, mornings only for the first week. If this is manageable, we will integrate year one, mornings only the following week. This will then be reviewed and depending on numbers of children in school and staff available, we may be able to introduce year 6. Potentially we need three teaching spaces for each year group, so it really is not possible to say yet. Our teaching days will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
We will still look after the children of key workers in a separate room in the school so that there is no cross-contamination. This will still be 5 days a week 8:30 until 4:30
The rest of the school will be closed on Wednesdays to allow for teachers PPA and for a deep clean of the school.
We are in talks with the Corbet about transition days for our year 6 on their premises as well, so please don’t panic that we won’t see our year 6 again. It is just hopefully useful to know that year 6s may not return to school until end of June at the earliest.
Teachers will continue to provide home-learning activities for the children at home, and this will be the same work that they complete with the children in school. The teachers will have chance to respond on Wednesdays or on some afternoons if they are not looking after keyworkers children.
We will pass on firm dates and details as soon as we are able to do so.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Tom divided 15 coins, each 1p, into four small bags.

He labelled each bag with the number of 1p coins inside it.

After doing this, he could then pay any amount of money from 1p to 15p by just using the certain bags without the need to open any bags.

How many 1p coins did Tom put in each bag?

Is there only one way Tom could have done this? If so, why?
