Music Intent Statement:
Music is very important to us here at Myddle. We believe that learning an instrument and singing together can benefit children right across the curriculum. Children cover the National Curriculum expectations for music through class music lessons taught by their class teacher, complemented by specialist tuition from Shropshire Music Service.
Mrs Kessel-Fell comes in weekly and leads whole class music, singing and lessons which each class. We also have a school recorder club and choir for children who want to take music a bit further. Throughout the year, we take part in choir concerts, sing with other schools and take part in Young Voices in Birmingham. Our instrumentalists and choir perform for parents at school events, community events and in worship.
In addition to this, opportunities exist for specialist individual or small group music tuition from the Shropshire Music Service peripatetic teachers. At the moment we offer guitar for children in Key Stage 2. For more information and prices, contact the school office.

Listening
The teaching and learning of music is enriched by developing pupils’ knowledge and understanding of the stories, origins, traditions, history and social context of the music they are listening to, singing and playing. At our school, we do this through music lessons, collective worship and as part of our history, geography, RE or PSHE lessons. We try to find links in our learning wherever possible and music is a great way to bring other subjects to life. Listening to recorded performances is complemented by opportunities to experience live music making in and out of school wherever possible. Whe we are able to, this includes performances with other school ensembles demonstrations from the Shropshie Music Service teachers or emsembles, band or choir from the church or feeder secondary school, or larger ensembles such as Young Voices and Shropshire Sings.
Our teachers have the pieces listed below, which are intended to give them a good start in terms of choosing music, which is age-appropriate. We actively encourage the staff to go beyond this and not limit the repetoire that the children are exposed to and grow to love.
