Spring Half Term 1

Dear Parents

I hope you have all enjoyed a lovely Christmas with your children and I wish you a very happy New Year.

You shall be receiving a newsletter on Tuesday 8th January which will state the new topics that we shall be learning during the Spring Term. However, here are some important details that you need to know before the term starts.

PE this half term shall be on Tuesdays (indoor) and Fridays (outdoor). Please make sure that the children have the correct school PE kit on these days, but on Fridays, I am happy for them to wear tracksuits bottoms, fleece, gloves, hats, etc… over the top of their PE kit to keep them warm.

Forest school will continue on a Tuesday morning but will NOT start on the first day back at school. Therefore, the first Forest School session will be on Tuesday 15th January.

Should you have any questions, please do ask.

Kind regards

Mr Hughes

KS2 Production – 12/12/18

Reminder that this year’s KS2 Production (Rhino and Jaguar) will be taking place on Wednesday 12 December.  There will be one performance at 1.30pm and another at 5.30pm.  A letter with more information will be sent home with children soon.

RAF Cosford

A very enjoyable and educational trip to RAF Cosford was had by all today. Here are some of the images of the day, involving Jaguar class.

Cosford RAF Museum – REMINDER

Just a reminder that Pandas, Tigers, Rhinos and Jaguars will be visiting the Cosford RAF Museum this Wednesday 14th November.

Please ensure that you give your consent and make payment online as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. If you have any problems with the School Gateway, please contact the school office. Thank you.

Y5&6 Timetable

As the ‘Reading The Game’ (English/Football) programme has now finished, PE for children in Y5&6 will now take place on a Wednesday afternoon. For this half term, the children shall be learning and developing their dance skills with Miss Lydia Davies. The second PE session of the week (Johnny Hughes Coaching) will still take place on a Friday afternoon.

Forest School (fingers crossed) will be taking place on Tuesday mornings this half term, starting on the first Tuesday back (6th November). As the children shall be starting their session at 9:10am, it would be easier for the children to arrive at school in the morning wearing their forest school clothing already. They will need to get changed into their school uniforms when their session has ended.

Thanks

Mr Hughes

Forest School Y5&6 Jaguars

Unfortunately, we are still unable to use the forest school area due to not receiving clearance that it is safe to use since the tree collapsed during the Summer holidays. Therefore, forest school art based sessions will continue in the classroom on a Wednesday until further notice.

PS It’s been great to see all of the children reading at home. Thanks for your encouragement and support with this. They are really keen to earn stickers for their reading chart.

Kind regards

Mr G Hughes

Forest School – Jaguar class

Parents of pupils in Y5&6 (Jaguar class)

During the Summer holidays, a bolt of lightning caused part of a tree to fall in the forest school area. Even though it has now been removed, until we receive clearance that it is safe for the forest school area to be used, the children’s forest school session won’t take place. Therefore, tomorrow’s (Wednesday) forest school session has been replaced with an indoor art lesson instead. We shall keep you informed about next Wednesday’s session at the start of next week.

Thanks

Mr G Hughes

Reading The Game Y5&6

Dear Parents,

If your child is in Jaguar class (Y5&6) this academic year, please ensure that they have  their PE kits on Tuesdays and Fridays, starting on the first day back at school.

On Tuesday 4th September, they will be receiving the first of their 6 ‘Reading the Game’ sessions with Shrewsbury Town in the Community. The programme captures the motivational power of football and sport to inspire young people to read more and improve their English skills. It delivers the statutory requirements of the new national curriculum.

‘Reading The Game’ is a 6 week (12 hour) programme. Each session is split, ½ classroom based and 1/2 practical based. Classroom sessions are teacher led using STFC resources and supported by STFC coaches and volunteers. Practical sessions are led by sport teachers or AFPE qualified coaches.

Subject to availability the class will receive a player visit and a visit from Lenny the Lion-Shrewsbury Town’s official mascot. Each pupil will be given a Lenny log book, an opportunity to win free tickets to a Shrewsbury Town match and a completion certificate.

Thanks

Mr G Hughes
