Last Summer, during the first lockdown, we have completed a Space weekly project, aimed at KS1. There is also a project aimed at Lower KS2 (Years 3 and 4), which some of you might enjoy: Y3_4-Learning-Project-SPACE

These activities can be complete throughout this half-term / lockdown.

For those who missed the KS1 Space project the first time around, there are more suitable activities for Year 2 in that one: KS1-Learning-Project-SPACE

This week is also Space week on Cbeebies. Please see below the schedule for especially produced shows:

Weekly assignments for Maths Shed and Spelling Shed have been updated today: www.edshed.com

Tiger Class – Home learning – Monday 18th January

On Monday 18th January, Mrs Williams will be leading a whole Federation worship on Zoom, at 9am. Details on how to join us will be published on our Class Dojo (to keep it private).

Also, our PE Coach (Mr Wright) is publishing 30 mins long fitness lessons on their You Tube channel. There will be new lessons on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This would be a great alternative to our usual PE sessions during lockdown, particularly when the weather is not suitable for outdoor exercise.

Panda Class Home Learning Monday 18th January

Hi Pandas,

here is the work for Monday’s learning.

Joe Wicks or MOVE  PE  – both available Live on YouTube

Cosmic Kids Yoga, on YouTube

Phonics – Ruth Miskin Live lessons on YouTube – Working at your pace on each sound in Sets 1 – 3.

Reading – Oxford Owl e-books.  https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/free-ebooks/

Also, check out this virtual library, a new resource for children.

https://library.thenational.academy/

Year 1 Maths – This week we are consolidating what we know about Addition & Subtraction. The link is to a variety of questions designed to assess if the children have remembered the strategies needed to answer questions covered in recent learning.

Chat through each problem with your child; asking what they need to do.  Answers could be given verbally or jotted down in their work books.  I suggest doing half the questions on Monday and the other half on Tuesday.  There will be a similar set of questions for Wednesday and Thursday in Wednesday’s post.

Year 1 – Spring Add & Sub 20 PDF

Reception Maths –  Using manipulatives (small items) to ‘count on’ when adding.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/using-manipulatives-to-count-on-when-adding-60vpat?activity=video&step=1

Number-Formation-Tracing-Strips-0-10     Use these sheets to trace over the numbers so that your child knows how to write each of the numbers, forming them correctly.

English – Year 1

The Magic Paintbrush   Diary entry/Recount.

Task – Create a Recount Map from the Magic Paintbrush story.

Plus Spellings within the video.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-listen-to-a-recount-cnjpcc

English – Reception

Watch the Magic Paintbrush  Same lesson for Year 1  Skip to the story – do as much or as little as you feel appropriate of the other activities within the video – it’s the story that I want them to enjoy. Then, using the cards in the link below, can your child order the story in to the correct sequence?

The Magic Paintbrush Story Sequencing Cards

Panda Class Home Learning Friday 15th January

Friday 15th January 2021

What a busy week! It’s been filled with positive Panda moments and lots of amazing work as a result.  Thank you for all of your hard work and effort – it can’t be easy juggling all of life’s commitments and home schooling.

I will send a link (on Class Dojo) to a PowerPoint which is a celebration of the wonderful work Pandas have produced over the last week. I’ve really enjoyed seeing what you’ve been doing. You should all feel very proud!

I would like to have today as a chance to catch up on the tasks you haven’t managed to fit into the week so far. There might be a couple of pieces of work you need to go back to; or something you wanted to spend longer doing, or just have a rest!

I hope you can make it to our Panda Class Zoom session at 2pm Friday 15th.  (Again, I will send the meeting ID on Class Dojo)  If children have anything they would like to show or share then they can have a go.  Initially I expect they will be a bit ‘star struck’ when they see their friends, so we will have to see how it goes.

If you are up to date and would like more work – I have added a few suggestions:

Ruth Miskin Phonics – Friday’s live lessons.

Joe Wicks and our own Mr Wright, ‘TWWG Move’ offer on-line PE sessions via YouTube.

Cosmic Kids Yoga

Reading (100s of free e-books via Oxford Owl link)

Board games

Singing and dancing

Role Play – can you act out the story of Lost and Found?

https://www.tate.org.uk/kids  Tate Modern for children is a wonderful resource full of amazing creative opportunities. I was on the site for ages exploring all of the different areas. I would definitely recommend it!

Here is a link to a lovely story called ‘While we can’t hug’.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tarq5nkkGlk

I hope you all have a restful and enjoyable weekend.

Best wishes

Thursday 14th January 2021

For ALL Pandas

Phonics – following the live daily Ruth Miskin YouTube lessons.

Reading – Oxford Owl Reading books – here is a direct link to the reading books which match your child’s book band colour.  If you are not sure which colour they are on please ask.

Links to Oxford Owl Read, Write, Inc books (1)

Writing – Positive Thinking is so important, especially at the moment, so here are some tasks with positivity in mind. Year 1 use your neatest writing and push yourself to use adjectives and a range of punctuation (!?,). Reception you can draw on your sheet and a grown up can write what you say or you can write too if you want to stretch yourself.

Happiness Is Poem Activity

Super Me Activity Sheet

ChallengeHow many ice cubes can you stand in a tower before it falls over? To make it even harder perhaps use tweezers or tongs to pick them up. Good luck! Take a photo and count how many ice cubes are in your tallest tower.

Reception – Maths

Adding to 20. Again if possible add to this with some everyday adding around the house. Add the total number of knives to the forks etc. when eating together.

Enjoy playing this Polar regions Bingo Game.

Year 1 – Maths

Subtraction – Crossing ten (2)

Please encourage your child to read the questions independently, then ask them what needs to be done (try and avoid telling them what needs to be done so that they have some thinking time). If they need some more support perhaps draw a number line for them to work with.  We do not use formal column methods for addition or subtraction in Year 1.

I have scheduled a Zoom Class Meeting for Friday 15th January, at 2pm   I thought it would be nice to have a catch up.  If you are going to join us can you ask your child if they have anything they would like to share with everyone, perhaps some news or a piece of work they have enjoyed. I will post the link on Class Dojo shortly.

Take care

Panda Class Home Learning Wednesday 13th January

Wednesday 13th January 2021

Hi Pandas, I have really enjoyed seeing you in photos/messages on Class Dojo – you look so busy!  You need to say and do (show your grown up) a great big Hip! Hip! Hooray!

Both Year Groups

Phonics   Following the Live schedule Ruth Miskin on YouTube (these lessons are proving to be popular and the children love them).

Reading – Oxford Owl free e-books   Both year groups (These are such a good resource).

Reception – Name writing.  Can your child write their name independently? Are the letters formed correctly? Are all the letters a uniform size?

Reception – Maths

Lost-and-Found-Up-to-10-Addition-Sheet

Use counters/dice to extend the activity and make some of your own.

Art – Both year groups

Last week we worked on creating our patterns. They looked great by the way!

This week we are learning to make pictures from printing with every day objects, such as Lego.  You could use the story Lost and Found to inspire you to create pictures, or a picture of the Continents or any picture you want.

If you don’t have paints at home you could cut out pages of different colours/textures from magazines to build up a picture. Or use an ipad/computer with a painting program. Whatever you have to hand…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euP1MvtefEw

Use this link for how the activity might work, if you have paints.

Or, this one if you are using coloured paper.

Year 1  Spellings –  Don’t forget to practise the spellings and add them in to a sentence when writing.

English – History

In English today we are going to read the PowerPoint about the life of Christopher Columbus. You may need to support your child with some of the reading. Discuss the key facts; his age when he began, the method of travel, what it would have been like on board and where he went for example.

Then, use the comprehension sheets to answer the questions.  Refer back to the PowerPoint and point to the facts that are needed to answer the question. When complete read the sheet in full to make sure that the answers match the questions.

Y1-Spring-Block-1-WO5-Subtraction-crossing-10-1-2019

Y1-Spring-Block-1-PPT5-Subtraction-crossing-10-1-2019 (2)

An investigation – Thinking about the boat that the boy made in the story, Lost and Found, your task is to make a sturdy boat that would stay afloat if you were to put it in some water.

Next, can you make it strong enough to carry passengers?  A real challenge! See if you can find some toys figures to be passengers.

Use recycling tubs, trays and boxes, anything you can get your hands on.

Boat Size and Strength Testing UtW STEM Activity

I can’t wait to see the creations!

Best wishes
