Panda and Tiger Verandah work

We are very pleased to say that work is commencing next week to improve the verandah across the back of panda and tiger classrooms.  The heating system has already been installed and there are now units which can heat or cool. The ceiling is being completely replaced to prevent it from over heating and there is work being done on the windows and floor. This is such a valuable space in our school with our growing numbers so we are very excited to have these improvements.

During this period from 23rd March, Pandas will need to come in through the same door as the rest of the children until it is complete.

World Book Day 2020

All children looked brilliant and did some excellent work today!

We’ve talked about some of our favorite books and read some stories to each other.

The Vocabulary Parade was a resounding success and World Book Day was fantastic, as always!

Tiger Class’ Book of the Month – February 2020

Every month, I will try to recommend a book to share with the Tigers. Sometimes, it will link to our Topic work or another subject and sometimes is just a great book to enjoy – reading for pleasure is just as important!

This month, the chosen book is “Kind”, by Alison Green.

With gorgeous pictures by a host of top illustrators, KIND is a timely, inspiring picture book about the many ways children can be kind, from sharing their toys and games to helping those from other countries feel welcome. The book is endorsed by GRUFFALO illustrator Axel Scheffler, and one pound from the sale of each printed copy will go to the Three Peas charity, which gives vital help to refugees from war-torn countries.

Charles Darwin’s birthday!

Tiger Class – Trip to Shrewsbury

We have had a brilliant day in Shrewsbury!

First, we visited the Museum, where one of the local experts told us more about Charles Darwin’s life and work. The children then dressed up and had a go at describing shells, classifying animals and grouping bugs, before moving on to an investigative task, where we studied and sketched fossils, skulls, birds and insects.

After lunch, we walked to the Shrewsbury Library, which is in the old school building, so we could have a look at the statue of Charles Darwin. We were shown inside the building by one of the librarians. We also discussed our favourite books and authors and, to finish off or trips, the children got their very own library cards and had a chance to borrow some books

Please check children’s bags today as they should have taken home a library card (if they had one issued today), their Darwin-style notebooks, and a programme of the local Darwin Festival. Also, most of the children have borrowed one or two books from the library. The date when they are due back is stamped inside.

We have learned lots and made some amazing memories today!

Topic work

We have been busy learning as much as we can about Charles Darwin’s life in preparation for our trip, on Wednesday. We have had a big box of books we have been exploring for the past couple of weeks and are also expecting a box of Darwin’s artefacts next week.
