Safer Schools

In March 2012, our School was accredited a ‘Safer School’. This is a school security initiative created by West Mercia Police and supported by Shropshire Council. It involves the following aspects.

  1. Implement basic security measures applicable at all schools i.e. property marking, and visitor passes etc.
  2. Consider pro-active security/safety measures for the site/building and/or protecting assets.
  3. Establish a procedure for recording incidents i.e. anti-social behaviour, vandalism etc. Any recorded information can then be analysed. In addition, the same recording procedure can be used for surveying a problem i.e. an unauthorised thoroughfare.
  4. If there are any projects to be undertaken, they are prioritised. Following the implementation of a project, the success of it is reviewed.
  5. PSHE or education of pupils as per the Safer School

To maintain the accreditation, we have held regular Safer School meetings since 2012.  Part of the Safer School process is gathering the views/concerns of parents/carers. If you have views/concerns, including any positive observations, please could you forward in writing by Friday 28th May 2021 so they may be considered at the next Safer School meeting in June. The focus is the school grounds/site only NOT the parking arrangements outside the school.  We will also be doing surveys with the pupils in school.

Thank you.

Help Us to recycle old pens

We have started a box in school to collect used pens, felt-tip pens, highlighters, board markers and tippex. It is outside Tiger classroom.

The old writing instruments will be taken to Ryman’s in Shrewsbury and terra-cycled by BIC. The plastic will be re-purposed into litter bins, watering cans and seating.

You can bring in your old pens from home too!

Update from Beam

With the restrictions easing, we thought it would be useful to update as to how Shropshire Telford & Wrekin Beam will be operating.

We do not have any plans to re-open as a drop-in service currently.  We will continue to offer telephone call backs as well as virtual face to face appointments.  All support should be requested via the website. https://www.childrenssociety.org.uk//beamshropshire

You may be aware we are offering limited face to face appointments from our Wellington venue.  These are strictly on an appointment-only basis.  As you can imagine, these are in high-demand given the limited slots we have, particularly the after-school appointments.  To ensure as many face to face sessions can be offered as possible, we will be booking appointments during school time.

Primary Schools – Y6 transitions offer
We are offering one-off face to face workshops for Y6 pupils who are concerned about their transition to secondary school.  If your school is interested in booking this, please get in touch ASAP.  Please note that this is only available to those schools who are not supported by the Bee U Mental Health School Support Team.

Workshops for parents/carers

We are pleased to let you know we are now offering virtual sessions for parents & carers around common emotional well-being topics.  These sessions aim to help parents & carers support their young people at home.  The sessions are detailed below, and do not need to be booked.  Please share with those you feel may benefit.

Changes: supporting young people with changes in a Co-Vid world We will cover:

Effect of CoVid on young people’s emotional well-being.

Missed milestones.

There will be opportunity for Q&A with our practitioners at the end.

This workshop has a focus on parents/carers of Y11 school leavers, however, the content has been designed to be useful to all.
