This week, Rhino class have finished their unit on time where their learning concentrated on converting between 12 and 24 hour time. Below is short activity to consolidate their learning in this area. Please ensure the children draw the hands on the analogue clock correctly, with the hour and minute hands appropriate length and with the hour hand in the correct position in relation to the number of minutes.

This week in maths, we have started looking at time. For homework this week, the children are to complete some activities linked to telling the time via an analogue clock face. These involve the children labelling a clock face, reading some times as well as drawing hands correctly on some empty faces.

This week we have concluded our work on money. However, I feel many of the children could do with some additional practise in calculating change by either counting on or counting back on a number line. The children have been given three calculations to work through and need to work their answer for each on two number lines.

Here is an example to demonstrate the two methods:

This week, homework is again focussing on decimal work. In particular halves and quarters and their equivalence as decimals. There are two activities set and you can access them below using the links. Please ensure homework is completed at handed before Thursday so it can be marked before new homework is handed out on the Friday.

This week, Rhino class have been learning about calculating perimeter.

When adding together a series of numbers together, please encourage your children to list, pair, reduce and then add. This is when the children list all measurements as an addition and then match pairs to add together to create a second but reduced list of numbers to add. The second, reduced list should be much easier and quicker to add together.

E.g.

list:              6 + 4  + 7 + 3 + 8 + 4 =

Pair:          (6 + 4)  + (7 + 3) + (8 + 4) =

Reduce and add:     10  + 10  +  12  = 36

Perimeter Homework

This week, homework looks at how to recognise and write expanded noun phrases.

A noun phrase usually has a determiner (e.g. a or the etc) and a noun ( an object, thing or place etc) For example: a dog or the cinema.

An expanded noun phrase introduces an adjective to describe the noun e.g. a brown dog or the busy cinema.
