Panda Class Home Learning Friday 29th January

Hi Pandas!  Happy Friday…

Thank you so much for your wonderful work and great effort you put into it.  I realise how hard it is to maintain enthusiasm, but you are doing a great job!

Today we will focus on catching up and trying some other activities.  Like last Friday, we can do lots of lovely Friday things…

Try this activity,

Take It Outside Winter Stem Tree Bark Rubbing Activity

Play is very important to a child’s development, it is an integral part of a child’s Early Years Foundation Stage and supports their learning too. Young children can develop many skills through the power of play. They may develop their language skills, emotions, creativity and social skills. Play helps to nurture imagination and give a child a sense of adventure. Through this, they can learn essential skills such as problem solving, working with others, sharing and much more.

https://positivepsychology.com/mindfulness-for-children-kids-activities/ This link is to Positive Psychology – and has lots of games and tips to reduce stress and focus on positive thinking.

Have a really lovely weekend, and if you have any concerns or just want to share something, let me know.

Best wishes

Teaching Slides

Spr1.5.5-Represent-numbers-to-50

Worksheet

Y1-Spring-Block-2-WO3-Represent-numbers-to-50-2019

Worksheets are not ideal, but at the moment are probably the best option. However, if parents/carers want to supplement maths objectives with some items and ideas from home, please feel free –  to reinforce the learning concepts. For example, ordering and sequencing numbers on cards; questioning which number has more or fewer; getting them to represent it using 10s and 1s drawings. Board games such as Snakes and Ladders would be great to discuss place value.

Maths – Reception

representing 6,7 & 8 cards

These ‘cards’ can be printed out, then cut up. (I can photocopy some if needed and leave them in the front of school – just let me know) Turn one card over at a time and count how many each picture is representing, then group the cards with matching numbers.

representing-numbers-6-7-and-8-activity

Have fun with this activity sheet – use your favourite colours.

Can you spot anything at home with the number 6, 7 & 8?

Science -Aimed mainly at Year 1 but Reception can take part too if you would like to.

In this lesson, we will be learning about the differences between invertebrates and vertebrates. All animals can be classified as either invertebrates which do not have a backbone or vertebrates which have a backbone. We will be identifying different animals from these classifications.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/what-is-the-difference-between-an-invertebrate-and-a-vertebrate-71gker

There is a quiz to begin with and then the lesson. There are worksheets (access these by clicking on the green circles at the bottom of the screen), which can be printed out or if you prefer, just ask your child the questions on the slides (click on ‘slide’ at the bottom of the worksheet page), and talk it through or even better still draw to show what you have learnt.

Reception – Do you fancy having  a look at the features of sea creatures?  If so, dive in and have a look – there is some junk modelling involved too!

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/junk-modelling-sea-creatures-74uked

Then, when you’ve finished, sit back and enjoy this story. You deserve a big rest!

Good luck everyone and have a really lovely day!

Best wishes

Pandas – MrsMcGrath

Dear Panda parents and carers,

We want to let you know that Mrs McGrath will soon be finishing her maternity leave and returning to Myddle as panda class teacher on Monday 8th March. Can you believe little Nansi is almost one!

We  know that some of the class don’t know Mrs McGrath very well, so she is working very closely with Mrs Turner at the moment and will start taking part in some of the class Zooms. Usually she would be in school becoming more familiar with all the pandas, but there are only a few in school!

The good news is that we won’t be losing Mrs Turner completely either! She will still be teaching panda class on Thursday mornings and all day Friday! We are so pleased about this as Mrs Turner is an asset to the school and I know from your surveys you all agree what an amazing job she has done over the past year.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us,

Mrs Williams
