As the Summer Holidays approach, we would like to encourage all children to continue reading throughout the break, so we have collated a few ways to keep up with your reading routines at home during the coming weeks.
Since the first lockdown, we have encouraged families to use the Oxford Owl website, which contains hundreds of free e-books. Parents will need to register, but it is all completely free and you can then access a variety of ebooks matching your child’s current levels: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/
Another option is to sign-up to a paid book rental service. We have recently started using the Reading Chest and and we recommend it. Packages start at £10 a month, and that includes a selection of up to 6 books a month, posted to your address, in the appropriate reading level for your child. There are also packages available for families with multiple children, etc. More details can be found on https://www.readingchest.co.uk/prices-and-packages
Obviously, the local libraries are also currently open, although some services are operating on a reduced basis. To find out more about your local library, please visit: https://www.shropshire.gov.uk/libraries/find-a-library/
And don’t forget to sign-up to the annual Summer Reading Challenge! It is always great fun and the children love it. https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/
It’s really important that the children keep reading regularly during their break. If you have any questions about helping your child with their reading, please contact your current or new Class Teacher and they will be happy to assist you.
