Strike Action

You have probably seen on the news a lot of information about teacher strikes.  I just wanted to let you know that to the best of our knowledge, none of the teachers at Myddle will be striking. If we are given any different information from union representatives, we will let you know.

Y5&6 Indoor Athletics Competition

This morning, 16 pupils from Myddle CE Primary School headed to the Corbet School to take part in an indoor athletics competition against other local schools. The children took part in a variety of running, throwing and jumping events and the overall scores of all of the pupils were added together at the end of the event. The children below all finished in the top 3 pupils in either one or both of their ‘field’ events.

In the running events, the children competed in relay races in pairs or groups of four. Showing great team spirit and effective baton changes, our teams finished in strong positions in many of the races.

Here are the final results of the morning:-

Girls overall positions:

Bicton 3rd
Ruyton 4th

Additional Bank Holiday & Change to KS2 Assessment Dates 2023

Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III bank holiday

The Government has announced a one-off bank holiday on Monday 8th May 2023 to mark the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. School will be closed on this day.

Changes to Key Stage 2 (Year 6) assessment dates in 2023

The Standards Testing Agency published an update to confirm a change to the Key Stage 2 (KS2) test schedule this year due to the announcement of the additional bank holiday, in honour of the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, which normally would have been the first day of the 2023 KS2 test week in England.

As Monday 8th May had previously been announced as the first day of the 2023 key stage 2 (KS2) test week in England, a change to the KS2 test schedule will be necessary.

It has been decided that KS2 tests will take place in the same week with tests following the usual order but each taking place one day later than originally planned. As such, the new schedule will be:

  • Tuesday 9 May: English grammar, punctuation and spelling (GPS) papers 1 (questions) and 2 (spelling)
  • Wednesday 10 May: English reading paper
  • Thursday 11 May: mathematics papers 1 (arithmetic) and 2 (reasoning)
  • Friday 12 May: mathematics paper 3 (reasoning)
If you have any questions, please contact the school office. Thank you.

Free School Meal Eligibility

Please see attached letter regarding claiming Free School Meals. This also applies to pupils already receiving Universal Free School Meals in YR, Y1 & Y2. If you believe you may qualify, please apply as soon as possible as even if you do not want your child to receive a school dinner, the school will still receive extra funds, which can provide a real difference to the quality of education we provide and provide financial support to those families that are eligible. See more details in the letter. Claims can be made by following this link: https://www.shropshire.gov.uk/free-school-meals/apply-for-free-school-meals/

Shropshire Music Service – all ensembles now free to attend!

As you know, we buy into the Shropshire Music Service at school and benefit from their fantastic teacher Mrs Kessel-Fell, as well as peripatetic instrument teachers. Did you know that you can also join bands, choirs and other ensembles out of school? The brilliant news is that from January, these are now free!! I can’t recommend these highly enough – the teaching is second to none, your children will make new friends and have so much fun. It improves their playing so much being in an ensemble so if your child is enjoying their music in school, please consider taking the next step and joining a group.
