Rhino Daily Challenge – Maths

Money Bags

Tom divided 15 coins, each 1p, into four small bags.

bags

He labelled each bag with the number of 1p coins inside it.

After doing this, he could then pay any amount of money from 1p to 15p by just using the certain bags without the need to open any bags.

How many 1p coins did Tom put in each bag?

Is there only one way Tom could have done this? If so, why?

Rhino Daily Challenge – Writing

Can you write a Limerick?

A limerick is a silly poem with five lines.  They are often funny or nonsensical.  Limericks were made famous by Edward Lear, a famous author who wrote the “Book of Nonsense” in the 1800’s.  This was an entire book of silly limericks.

How to write a limerick:

The first, second and fifth lines rhyme with each other and have the same number of syllables (typically 8 or 9).
The third and fourth lines rhyme with each other and have the same number of syllables (typically 5 or 6)
Limericks often start with the line “There once was a…” or “There was a…”

Here are some examples about teachers:

There was a headmaster from Quebec,
Who wrapped both his legs round his neck,
But then he forgot,
How to untie the knot,
And now he’s an absolute wreck.
There once was a teacher from Leeds,
Who swallowed a packet of seeds,
In less than an hour,
Her nose was a flower,
And her hair was a bunch of weeds.
There was a young teacher from Harrow,
Whose nose was too long and too narrow,
It gave so much trouble,
That he bent it up double,
And wheeled it around school in a barrow.

Challenge:

Can you write some Limericks of your own?

Can you write a Limerick about yourself? There was a young man/lady called….

ZOOM CLASS MEETING

I would like to create the opportunity for you to see and speak to me and all of your classmates via a class zoom meeting, on Thursday 14th May in the afternoon around 2pm. During the meeting, I would also like you to share one of the limericks you have written.

If you are not familiar with zoom, it is quite easy to use and set up. Best way to start, is to ‘Google Search’ zoom and just follow the instructions. Many of you may have already used zoom and are probably more familiar with it than I am!

I will be sending out a link via Dojo for you to be able to join the meeting later on today. Can’t wait to see you all.
