Welcome Back!

To all our parents and carers, we hope you’ve had a fantastic summer and we are really looking forward to welcoming the children back to school tomorrow.

Arrival Gate: Just a reminder that we would like you to say goodbye to your children and the first gate in the mornings, so that there aren’t parents on the playground when we need to lock the gate. Nursery parents will need to walk round the main nursery entrance. The exception to this will be new children to our school and new reception children, whose parents and carers can come in with the tomorrow to their door. We hope that they will then feel confident to do this on their own subsequently. Mrs McGrath will come to the first gate on Thursday and help the reception children to come in on their own with her.

Deputy Head: As you know, Mr Glover left us at the end of last term. We have altered our leadership structure so that our federation will now have one deputy head across the two schools. This is something that the local authority had asked us to do by the end of this academic year, so it has now been moved forward due to Mr Glover getting a new job. We would like to welcome Mrs Michelle Hillidge to the team at Myddle. She has been deputy head at Baschurch for 8 years, and was a headteacher prior to that. Michelle has worked closely with Paul and the other staff over the years, but will now work hard to get to know the children and our families here at Myddle. The timetable will as such that there is always a member of the leadership team in each school, as myself, Mrs Hillidge, Mrs Foster and Mrs Cadman will spend half a week in each school.

Changes to Staffing: Mrs Hillidge will now teach the EYFS children on a Friday instead of Mr Glover. Mr Simon Ansell will teach Rhino class on a Monday. He is a regular supply teacher who most of the children will recognise.

Dojo App: This app is fantastic for reminders, but it should be kept for that purpose primarily. A teacher may remind you of something you need to bring in, or a change of PE day. You may want to send a quick note to a teacher. Please be mindful that our wifi isn’t great and teachers don’t always receive the messages in the school day when they are teaching, so if you need to report an illness, a change of person collecting your child or suchlike, you must call or email the admin office. If you want to ask about your child’s progress or discuss friendship issues, you should email the office and they will ask the teacher to phone you to talk it through. Please don’t try to have these discussions on dojo – our teachers are always happy to meet with you or chat on the phone to help get problems sorted out quickly. Your teacher will provide you with a dojo log-in if you don’t have one already. Our main news is sent via the school website, so please make sure you have subscribed to emails and updated your class preferences if you children are in new classes.

We are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead and want to offer a big warm welcome to our new families.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Mrs Williams

Free Summer reading challenge

The Marvellous Makers Reading Challenge launches this month! The National launch is on 6 July, while Shropshire is having its main launch events on 20 July once most of the county’s schools have broken up for the summer.

For those new to it, the Summer Reading Challenge is an annual partnership between the Reading Agency and public libraries all over the UK, which invites primary aged children to sign up to read 6 library books of their choice over the summer break.

For every 2 books completed, they receive stickers to complete their welcome packs, with fun activities along the way. At the end, they earn a medal and certificate.

The challenge is completely flexible and is intended to be fun, so if 6 books is not a suitable target then you are free to set your own.

Perhaps a keen reader would prefer a target of 10 books instead, or someone who is new to chapter books might like to set a target of 2 over the summer.

Whatever your reading challenge looks like, Shropshire Libraries are ready to celebrate it with you! Visit your local library to find out more and book on to one of their special events.
