Dear Parents and Carers,

Well, we have had a really successful first week back. It has been so pleasing to see the children return and return so happily. It was such a rewarding feeling on Monday morning to see the beaming smiles on the children’s faces as they saw their friends and school staff.

We prepared lots of activities in order to ease the children back into school as well as support their emotional needs. The children responded to these well and in fact were very ready to continue with their day to day lessons. It has been fantastic to see all children settle so well back into their school routine.

As you are aware, we have kept many of the systems in place that worked so well last term which have allowed us to open up as safely as we can. Although some measures are a challenge to manage, it is important that we adhere to these to ensure we are following the DFE guidance.

To ensure we keep everyone safe we need your support too.

We still have the one way system in place for drop off and collection. The aim of this is to give all adults the space to socially distance and we encourage you to use this. We understand that it is further to walk but we have noticed a number of parents choosing to wait outside the school grounds to collect pupils at the end of the day. Unfortunately, if everyone did this the pavement area outside the school would become very overcrowded making it difficult for others to safely pass. Please keep yourselves and others safe by using the system we have put in place.

Parents of Jaguar class, we don’t expect you to use the one way system due to where the pupils exit their classroom, but please be mindful that you are not blocking the pavement while waiting. We would also still advice the wearing of face coverings even though you are outside of the school grounds.

We have also spent a lot of time organising procedures so that we can keep bubbles separate during the school day. This allows us to reduce the impact of Covid on the whole school and keep any cases isolated to just one bubble. Although we encourage social distancing between pupils, the bubble system is our main way of minimising risk and spread of the virus.

Please can we ask that you all be mindful of this, ensuring your children do not mix with other pupils from different bubbles during collection or after school.

We can only beat the virus if we work together.

Parent Governor Election March 21

It been brought to our attention, since returning to school on Monday, that a number of pupils are wearing items of clothing that we feel do not meet the requirements of our school uniform dress code. Our school unform is something to be proud of and although it may not be the height of fashion we do expect it to be adhered to.

Please can we ask that skirts worn to school are a dark grey or black standard school skirt to the knee in length – no fashion skirts and no skirts of stretchy material please.

As I sure you are aware, having a good source of ventilation around the school building is a massive part of our Covid 19 School Plan.

Although we have been lucky with the weather recently, it is still extremely cold at times and this does affect the temperature in the building.

Please can we ask that your child attends school in their winter uniform, and brings a warm coat with them every day.

Rapid lateral flow testing for households and bubbles of school pupils and staff

On Sunday 28 February, the Department of Health and Social Care announced that from Monday 1 March, households with primary school, secondary school and college age children, including childcare and support bubbles, can test themselves twice every week at home as schools return from Monday 8 March. Households, childcare and support bubbles of primary, secondary and college staff can also be tested. Twice-weekly testing will also be offered to adults working in the wider school community, including bus drivers and after school club leaders. The twice-weekly test kits can be accessed:

Schools should not give test kits to parents, carers or household members and should not order more test kits for this purpose. Letters containing advice on where to access testing will be made available for schools to share with parents and staff shortly.

This guidance provides information on who can be tested and how you can get a test.

Did you know that on Wednesday 3^rd March 2021 it is World Hearing Day? The charity Signal is based here in Shropshire, but the work they do supports people who are Deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus across the World.

Signal wondered if our school children would be up for a World Hearing Day challenge!

They would love it if you could hold a sponsored 1-hour silence on the 3^rd March to raise money for Signal and awareness for the work we do helping to support the Deaf.

Since 2013 Signal has directly supported over 94,000 people (42,784 people internationally and 51,250 people in UK). In the last year, they have supported 1992 children with disabilities to access education and trained 734 teachers to provide an inclusive learning environment.

I’m sure many parents will relish an hour’s peace (!) but they hope the experience will give children an understanding of what hearing loss or deafness might be like. Signal will also be sharing videos online with some basic sign language, so the children will be able to ask you ‘how much longer?’ or ‘can I have a snack?’!

The hour can be at any time to suit your schedule.

This will be a great way to expand their experiences, learn something new and raise a few pounds for a good cause.
