Reading The Game Y5&6

Dear Parents,

If your child is in Jaguar class (Y5&6) this academic year, please ensure that they have  their PE kits on Tuesdays and Fridays, starting on the first day back at school.

On Tuesday 4th September, they will be receiving the first of their 6 ‘Reading the Game’ sessions with Shrewsbury Town in the Community. The programme captures the motivational power of football and sport to inspire young people to read more and improve their English skills. It delivers the statutory requirements of the new national curriculum.

‘Reading The Game’ is a 6 week (12 hour) programme. Each session is split, ½ classroom based and 1/2 practical based. Classroom sessions are teacher led using STFC resources and supported by STFC coaches and volunteers. Practical sessions are led by sport teachers or AFPE qualified coaches.

Subject to availability the class will receive a player visit and a visit from Lenny the Lion-Shrewsbury Town’s official mascot. Each pupil will be given a Lenny log book, an opportunity to win free tickets to a Shrewsbury Town match and a completion certificate.

Thanks

Mr G Hughes

Football match

A busy day ended with a friendly football fixture between selected pupils in Y2&3 against a girls team from Y4,5 and 6. After a tight opening, it was 1-1 at half time with Chloe Williams cancelling out Alfie Russell’s strike. The second half brought many more goals with Alfie Russell (2), Sophie Carr and Alex Fairley extending the Y2&3 team’s lead. Chloe Williams fired home her second from the penalty spot to gain a consolation goal for the Y4,5 & 6 girls to make the final score 5-2. It was a great experience for all of the children with many of them playing in their first ever game. Well done everybody and thank you to the parents who came to support their children.

Skip2BFit Day

All of the children have taken part in a Skip2BFit challenge today. They worked really hard for 30 minutes of skipping and tried to achieve their highest score within a 2 minute period, with their scores being recorded on their skipping rope handles. The skipper with the highest score in each class was given their own certificate and a prize for the best skipper in the school went to Alfie Ridgeway Jones. The best skipping teacher was Mrs Williams!
