Pushes and pulls

We’ve had a fantastic first full week back! The children have returned with great, positive attitudes.

In our science work we have started looking at different contact forces. In groups, children sorted push and pull forces into a Venn diagram, working collaboratively and discussing the results. We have also enjoyed some active maths and started our topic work on ancient Egypt. In our literacy, we have practised writing expanded noun phrases, using adverbs and punctuating speech.

Well done for all of your hard work this week Tigers!

Reading, reading, reading!๐Ÿ“š

We always try to promote reading for pleasure and show the children in class how wonderful books can be. Recently, children have really taken this onboard and are enjoying their reading so much which is lovely to see! Many of the children come in to school in the morning desperate to tell us what has happened in their book and they’ve even started asking if they can read their books during break time! Being able to read for pleasure is a great skill to have and opens up so many new worlds and possibilities! ๐Ÿ“š

Animals and transport ๐Ÿš‚ ๐Ÿš๐Ÿš—

This week we have been learning all about animal groups such as mammals, birds, amphibians, fish and reptiles and thinking about each groupโ€™s characteristics. Weโ€™ve also learned about animal diets and after an animal hunt in forest school, sorted animals into groups depending on if they are a carnivore, herbivore or omnivore. We are starting to look at humans, naming different parts of the body and their function. Excitingly, we will be having a school trip linked to this during the last week of term – more info to follow very soon!

In our history last week we looked at how cars have changed since the first motorised cars. This week weโ€™ve looked at how trains have changed over time, learning about George Stephenson and โ€˜the rocketโ€™ steam train and comparing it to the modern โ€˜bulletโ€™ train! ๐Ÿš‚ ๐Ÿš๐Ÿš—
